The Swiss firm Weko Biel AG has just introduced in Europe a rotor damping system suitable for plastic films that has already been successfully commercialized on the Asian market (particularly in Japan). This system allows to apply a coating onto films by means of special discs namely rotors. The coating can include functional additives such as antifogging, antiblocking or antistatic agents. Moreover the Weko Biel AG system permits to substitute coated monolayer films by coextruded films, thus offering cost saving. Tests have shown that most of plastics such as polyethylene (PE), polystyrene (PS), poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) or polyester do not require a pretreatment.
