At the end of June 2005, Salavatnefteorgsintez (Salavat, Bashkortostan) plans to produce a pilot batch of orthoxylene to test the working efficiency of the technology developed at the company. The company did not produce orthoxylene, which is a starting material for phthalic anhydride. So, it was decided to establish an own production unit (on the base of two production departments) using regular raw materials supplied to Salavatnefteorgsintez. The process was developed by the specialists of the company together with the Neftekhimik LLC, a scientific enterprise of St. Petersburg. Currently, the basic construction works at the two technological phases (at the refinery and the Sintez plant) has been finished. The launch of the project is planned for this year. In-house orthoxylene production will permit the enterprise to stop purchasing this material, improve the depth of petroleum processing and decrease costs. The design capacity of the unit will amount to 15 thousand t/y.
