PET Production in CIS to Drive Out Import Deliveries by 2010

According to INFOMINE, PET manufacturing in CIS will exceed 360,000 tonnes and completely replace import deliveries  by 2010.

Analysis of PET production in CIS for the last 6 years reveals stable growth dynamics. Thus, 2002 PET output hit a low of 122,000 tonnes, while 2005 figures reached a peak of 172,000.

In Russia  PET is mostly used for preforms in bottle industry. In accordance to 2005 results, 348,300 tonnes of PET were involved in this process, constituting 82,0% of the total consumption. PET share in packing business amounted 12.2%, in fiber business - 2.3%, technical films sector - 1.5%, food film wraps sector - 1.9%.
