Sodium Sulphide Consumption in CIS Is Expected to Grow

INFOMINE agency forecasts the average growth ratio of sodium sulphide consumption to make 3-5% annually in CIS within the next few years.

Sodium Sulphide and Sodium Hydrosulphide are used in non-ferrous metallurgy, textile and tanning industries as well as in other businesses.

The evaluated total consumption of Sodium Sulphide in Russia has declined by 1.2 times over the last years. The major consumers are non-ferrous metallurgical and soda manufactures. At present, Kazakhstan and Ukraine use mainly imported products.

In 2005, only Kuchuksulphate JSC (Russia) and Aktiubinsk Chromium Chemicals Plant (Kazakhstan)  were involved in Sodium Sulphide manufacture in CIS. In November 2005 Aktiubinsk  ceased  sodium sulphide production.

The total capacity of  Sodium Sulphide enterprises in the region is 25,000 tpa, including 17,000 tpa at Kuchuksulphate JSC. However, the  company is reducing its production output: in 2005 it manufactured only 5.1 kt of Sodium Sulphide.
