New BOPS plant for Russia

Two Russian firms are building a BOPS production plant in the Republic of Tatarstan.

US plant supplier Marshall and Williams Plastics is constructing the 15,000tpa biaxially oriented polystyrene (BOPS) line on behalf of Marta Holding, a diversified conglomerate, and OAO Niznekamskneftekhim (NKNH), one of the largest producers of polystyrene resin in Russia.

The plant is located in Elabuga City, close to OAO NKNH’s polystyrene plant, and will supply packaging film to the Russian market. Installation and commissioning is targeted for mid-2006.

President of Marta Holding Georgiy Trefilov said: “The [Marta and OAO NKNH] joint venture will produce high-quality BOPS with minimum expenditures, making it possible for it to attain the leading position in the market for thermoformed material.”
