SIBUR Holding to invest EUR126m in modernising ethylene operations

The Investment Committee of SIBUR Holding JSC approved an extension project dealt with an  ethylene unit of its affiliate Sibur-Neftechim refinery (Kstovo, Russia), said the company.

Along with the project realisation, Sibur is going to set up a  PVC facility  having a 330,000 tpa capacity in Nizhegorodsk region.

The EUR126m  project focuses on  extending of  the ethylene unit  capacity from 300,000 tpa to 430,000 tpa and provides for the following activities:
2006-2007  -  designing extension works,
2008-2009  - equipment installation,
2010       -  commissioning of the ethylene and PVC manufacturing.

As for the intended PVC plant set-up, it will be  financed with 18-20,5bn roubles, informed  Sibur. The new production facility will enable the company to raise the current PVC output by 10 times. At present, Sibur considers 4 sites in  Nizhegorodsk region ( 2 in Kstov and 2 in Dzerzhinsk) to use for the plant construction.  The project may be shared with Solvay.
Sibur-Neftechim has 3 plants in   Nizhegorodsk region: a refinery (Kstovo), a plant for ethylene oxide and glycol production (Dzerzhinsk), and a PVC plant Kaprolactam (Dzerzhinsk).
