Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant (NCCP JSC), Russia, held the first meeting
of Coordination Council on environmental management and labour safety. The meeting was dedicated to preparing for certification of OHSAS 18001:1999 (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series), as the company intends to certificate its OH&S management system in late August. As a result of the meeting, Coordination Council adopted the project of Occupational Safety Management Programme which had been re-written in accordance with OHSAS 18001:1999 requirements.
Having received a Russian certificate of labour safety in 2005, NCCP decided to impose OHSAS requirements to its health and safety ( OH&S) management system. That is why NCCP administration created a work group and planned the necessary activities. But
beforehand, the company conducted several OHSAS trainings for senior staff and OH&S managers to acquaint them with the Assessment specifications, and in May-June 2006 it had all departments audited. At present, NCCP JSC has got such OH&S management system that conforms with OHSAS policy. Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant, being a part of TVEL Corporation, is a chemical and machine-building complex engaged in production of nuclear fuel for power and research reactors, lithium and its compounds. The enterprise manufactures 20% of the global lithium production and constructs fuel assemblies for nuclear power reactors at Russian, Ukrainian and Chinese nuclear power stations. The authorized capital makes up RUB324,039m (USD12m).
