Georgia on the way to biodiesel alternatives

The Georgian  Union of the Oil Manufacturers, Importers and Consumers  has put forward an initiative on biodiesel manufacturing in Georgia, reported the news agency today.

As the Union Chair, Vano Mtvralashvili said, biodiesel manufacturing will result  in  additional energy resources and agriculture development. He also pinpointed that the dramatic growth of oil prices and  the increasing demand for petrochemicals brought about the idea of alternative energy resources.
At present,  biodiesel is one of such resources. For instance, methyl ether, produced by vegetable oil synthesis, can be used as  fuel. The  methyl ether contains large quantity  of cetane (56%-58%  compared to 50-52% of this one in mineral/inorganic diesel ).

Biodiesel can be  processed from the rape, which is  sown all over the territory of 50 million acres in Europe, America and Asia. In 2005 the global biodiesel  production totalled 10 million tonnes, while in 2007 it is expected to raise to 15 million tonnes.
Vano Mtvralashvili added that biodiesel  production in Georgia will primarilly promote  agriculture, and it will provide an  alternative to the existing energy resourses. As a result, the manufacturing industries of the country will be able to cut their expences.
Vano Mtvralashvili also stated that the Union had requested the Georgian government to study this issue. In case of its approval, the Government should initiate a state programme  allowing for development and investments.
