Ukrainian PVC market

It is a curious paradox that Ukraine is exporting almost all vinylchloride monomer (VCM) produced in large amounts on its territory, while local plastics manufacturers have to import PVC resins to keep their businesses afloat. All PVC capacities in Ukraine have been completely shut down by 2006 due to difficult market conditions over the recent years. Despite total dependence on import supplies, the Ukrainian PVC processing industry continues to grow dynamically.    According to the Ministry for Construction, Architecture and Municipal Housing of Ukraine, residential building in the country was to grow by 30% in 2006 and to double in 2010 as compared to 2005. Average consumption of PVC applications per capita in Ukraine amounts to 5.5-5.6 kilo per year, however this figure is by several times less than in Western countries.
