Naphthalene Production and Market in CIS

Naphthalene (C10H8) is a white crystalline substance obtained either through the processing of coal tar feedstock or is extracted from heavy petroleum fractions.

Nowadays, the global naphthalene output amounts to about 950,000 tonnes per year. The largest volumes are produced in China, the U.S., Western Europe, and Japan. The CIS manufacture is based at coke chemical plants of Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. Nearly 70% of total naphthalene output is consumed in the production of phthalic anhydride.

In the coming years, the CIS expects growth in naphthalene consumption in the construction sector. To date, there are certain problems that impede the development of naphthalene market in this region.
